Last updated: July 2026. Season data below is the completed 2025/26 Betway Premiership.
Richards Bay scored seven goals in fifteen away matches last season — the lowest away scoring record in the Betway Premiership. They also drew 43% of their fixtures. The Natal Rich Boys are, on the evidence, one of the hardest teams in the league to score against at home and one of the least threatening on the road.
They finished eleventh on 34 points and open 2026/27 at home to Polokwane City on 2 August.
The modern Richards Bay FC was formed in 2017, when chairman Jomo Biyela acquired the status of Thanda Royal Zulu. The club won promotion to the Premiership as second-tier champions in 2021/22 and has held its place since. Home matches are at Richards Bay Stadium (capacity 10,500), part of the uMhlathuze Sports Complex, one of the smallest grounds in the division. They are coached by Brandon Truter.
Computed from the full season results grid; the totals reconcile exactly with the official final table.
| Played | W-D-L | Goals for | Goals against | Points per game | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home | 15 | 5-8-2 | 16 | 12 | 1.53 |
| Away | 15 | 2-5-8 | 7 | 18 | 0.73 |
Three findings stand out:
Goalkeeper Ian Otieno kept ten clean sheets in 23 appearances.
Their away matches are an unders and opposition-clean-sheet profile. A side scoring less than half a goal per away game makes the "Richards Bay to score" side of any market a difficult proposition, and lifts the opposition's win-to-nil case.
At home, the draw is the standout. Eight draws in fifteen — more than half — with only two defeats. Draw and double-chance markets fit their home fixtures better than either win line.
Do not treat 34 points as a uniform 34 points. The home record is mid-table; the away record is bottom-three. Any market pricing them on the season average will be wrong in one direction or the other.
Caveat: one completed season. Draw rates in particular are unstable year to year and this figure is high enough to expect some regression.
Richards Bay host Polokwane City at the uMhlathuze Sports Complex on 2 August (15:30) — a meeting of two of the league's most draw-heavy sides — then travel to Chippa United on 11 August.
The new local dimension: Milford, also based in Richards Bay and also playing at the uMhlathuze complex, have been promoted. KwaZulu-Natal now has five clubs in the division.

Richards Bay receive main-market coverage from every licensed South African operator, with limited derivative pricing. For a club defined by draws and low away scoring, the draw price and the under-2.5 line are the ones to compare.
Hollywoodbets, the KwaZulu-Natal-born operator, carries the broadest PSL range among our licensed partners. Compare the field on our best betting sites in South Africa page; every operator holds a South African provincial licence, verifiable in our licence register.
