VELD.co.za ("VELD", "we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 ("POPIA").

This site is not intended for users under 18 years of age. All content on VELD.co.za is for adults aged 18 and over.

1. Who we are (responsible party)

For the purposes of POPIA, VELD.co.za is the responsible party for any personal information processed through this website. We are an independent editorial and affiliate publisher. We are not a licensed gambling operator and we do not accept bets.

If you need to contact us about your personal information, see section 11 below.

2. What personal information we collect

We collect a deliberately small amount of personal information, because VELD does not offer user accounts, registration, deposits or any betting functionality.

Information you give us directly

• If you e-mail us, we receive your e-mail address and whatever you choose to write to us.

Information collected automatically when you visit

• IP address (or, where available, only the first IP segment from X-Forwarded-For).
• Browser user-agent string, device type, operating system and approximate language.
• The page you visited and the page that referred you (HTTP Referer).
• The time of your visit (ISO 8601 timestamp).
• Cookie identifiers, but only where you have consented (see our Cookie Policy).
• For clicks on /go/[bookmaker] outbound affiliate links: the bookmaker slug, the time, and the items above. This data is written to our server logs to help us understand which content is useful. It does not identify you personally.

We do not knowingly collect:

• Identity numbers, ID copies or proof of address.
• Banking, payment-card or wallet details.
• Health information, biometric data or any other "special personal information" under section 26 of POPIA.
• Information about minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

3. Why we use your information (purpose specification)

We only use your information for the following specific, lawful purposes:

To measure aggregate traffic and improve editorial content.	Consent (where analytics cookies are enabled).

To respond to messages you send us.	Performance of the implicit request you made to us.
To meet legal and regulatory obligations in South Africa.	Compliance with law.

We do not use your personal information for automated decision-making, profiling or any kind of credit, employment or insurance scoring. We do not sell your personal information.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

VELD.co.za uses a small set of cookies, categorised as Essential, Analytics and Marketing. Analytics and Marketing cookies are blocked by default until you give consent through our cookie banner. See the Cookie Policy for the full list, names, providers and retention periods.

You can withdraw cookie consent at any time by clearing your browser storage for this site, or by re-opening the cookie preferences from the footer.

5. Who we share information with (operators and third parties)

We use a small number of carefully chosen operators (POPIA's equivalent of "data processors"). Each one is contracted to process information only on our instructions and to keep it secure:

• Vercel Inc. — hosting, server logs and content delivery network. Vercel processes IP addresses and request metadata so that our site loads for you. Vercel's data processing terms are publicly available.
• Google LLC (Google Analytics 4) — anonymised, aggregate traffic measurement, loaded only after you accept analytics cookies. GA4 truncates IP addresses by default.
• Bookmaker affiliate networks — when you click a /go/[bookmaker] link, you leave VELD.co.za. The destination bookmaker (e.g. Hollywoodbets, Betway South Africa, SuperSportBet) and its tracking network may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. We do not control those cookies.

We will only disclose personal information to other parties where we are required to do so by law, by a court order, or by a request from the Information Regulator or another competent authority.

6. Cross-border transfers

Some of our operators (Vercel, Google) host data outside South Africa. POPIA section 72 permits these transfers because those operators are subject to laws that provide an adequate level of protection or are bound by binding corporate rules or standard contractual clauses that uphold the conditions in POPIA.

7. How long we keep your information

• Server logs containing IP and /go/ click events: up to 30 days, then automatically rotated by our hosting provider.
• Aggregated analytics data in GA4: up to 14 months, then deleted by Google in line with our retention setting.
• E-mails you send us: kept only as long as needed to handle your query, then deleted.

We do not retain personal information for longer than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was collected.

8. How we keep your information safe (security safeguards)

We apply reasonable technical and organisational safeguards as required by POPIA section 19, including:

• HTTPS / TLS encryption in transit on every page of VELD.co.za.
• Hosted infrastructure with industry-standard access controls and audit logs.
• Least-privilege access: only the editorial team can access raw server logs.
• Regular review of operators' security posture.

No system is perfectly secure. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator without undue delay, as required by POPIA section 22.

9. Your rights under POPIA

As a data subject, you have the right to:

1. Be notified that we are collecting your information, and what we are doing with it (this Privacy Policy).
2. Request access to the personal information we hold about you, free of charge for a reasonable first request.
3. Request correction or deletion of personal information that is inaccurate, misleading, out of date, incomplete, excessive or obtained unlawfully.
4. Object to the processing of your personal information on reasonable grounds.
5. Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent (for example, analytics cookies).
6. Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

10. Children

VELD.co.za is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We review this policy regularly and may update it from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page shows when the most recent change was made. Material changes will be highlighted on the homepage and on this page for at least 30 days.
