About Bet AFR — South Africa's Betting Intelligence Team
Bet AFR is an independent editorial site for South African sports bettors. We publish bookmaker reviews, Premier Soccer League (PSL) match predictions, Lucky Numbers guides and plain-language explainers that help you bet more sensibly. We are not a bookmaker, we never accept bets, and we hold no stake in the outcome of any match — our only job is to give you clear, honest information.
What we do
Every week, South Africans place bets without an easy way to tell a reliable, licensed bookmaker from a flashy welcome offer that falls apart at withdrawal time. Bet AFR exists to close that gap. We test the betting sites available to South African players, read the bonus terms in full, time the payouts, and write up what we find in plain language.
We cover three things in depth:
- Bookmaker reviews and rankings — which licensed South African betting sites are worth your time, scored against a consistent set of factors. You can see exactly how we reach our verdicts on our how we rate page.
- PSL and football predictions — researched previews of South African and European fixtures, with the reasoning shown, not just a scoreline.
- Lucky Numbers and betting guides — how the markets work, framed honestly as entertainment, not a way to make money.
Who we are
Bet AFR is run by a small team of South African writers and editors who follow local football and the betting market closely. Between us we have spent years reading bookmaker terms, tracking PSL form, and watching how the market has changed since online betting became mainstream. We write for the punter we used to be: someone who wanted a straight answer about whether a site pays out on time.
We do not publish invented credentials or stock-photo "experts". Where a specific writer's experience is relevant, we say so on that page. Everything else is published at the level of the Bet AFR editorial team, which reviews and signs off every page before it goes live.
What we stand for
A few principles shape everything we publish:
- Licensed operators only. We only feature bookmakers that hold a valid South African betting licence — issued by a provincial authority such as the Western Cape Gambling & Racing Board, or recognised by the National Gambling Board (NGB). If an operator isn't properly licensed for South African players, it doesn't appear on Bet AFR.
- Honest framing. Betting carries real financial risk. We never describe a bet as certain, and we don't promise profits — wins are luck, not skill, and we write that way.
- Independence you can check. Our rankings are earned on merit. We explain our scoring openly, and where we earn a commission we tell you — see our editorial policy.
- Responsible by default. The 18+ marker and the National Responsible Gambling Programme helpline appear on every page, because betting should stay entertainment.
Why you can trust our rankings
We don't rank on bonus size. Every betting site we recommend is scored against the same six factors — licensing and safety, ZAR banking and payout speed, odds value and market depth, bonus fairness, live betting and the mobile app, and support plus responsible-gambling tools — with licensing and reliable rand payouts carrying the most weight. The full method is set out on our how we rate page, and you can see the results on our guide to the best betting sites in South Africa.
The order changes when operators adjust their odds, fix problems or let standards slip. We re-check the list regularly, and we remove any partner that stops paying players fairly or loses its licence.
